Drones and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs)

FBI Library Guide

Ongoing advancements in drone and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technologies will benefit police and law enforcement agencies as well as those individuals and groups engaging in unlawful protest and forms of criminality including drug trafficking and acts of terrorism. Drones and UAVs can be utilized for numerous missions including reconnaissance, surveillance, carrying items—both legal and illegal—and serving as a platform on which less-lethal and lethal weapons can be placed. They can also be used as a means to communicate messages, factual information, and even propaganda, for broadcast and social media purposes.
